After being injured in Game 2, Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry may not suit up for Game 3 against the Cavaliers.

Through two games of their series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Toronto Raptors have been thoroughly outplayed. Early in the second half of Wednesday night’s Game 2 loss, injury was added to insult with point guard Kyle Lowry suffered a left ankle injury. He briefly came back into the game, but was taken out for good when Cleveland stated to take control.

As could have been expected, Lowry missed practice on Thursday and will undergo more tests on his sprained ankle. Lowry has been optimistic about this chances to play in Friday night’s Game 3, as the Raptors return home to try to turn the momentum of the series. But head coach Dwane Casey was a bit less confident when he spoke to reporters.

Lowry was a game-time decision for Game 5 of Toronto’s first round series against the Milwaukee Bucks with a back issue. But he suited up, and posted a double-double (16 points and 10 assists) over 36 minutes in a 118-93 Raptors’ win. Different injuries come with different circumstances but Lowry at least has a recent history of playing well while less than 100 percent healthy in a playoff game.

If Lowry can’t go on Friday night, Corey Joseph would be in line to start in his place. More scoring burden would also fall to backcourt mate DeMar DeRozan, who is coming off an abysmal Game 2 (2-for-11 from the floor; five points) as the Cavaliers seemed to put some focus on stifling him.

If he can walk reasonably well, Lowry seems sure to suit up in Game 3. How effective he is, or how long he actually lasts in the game, is another matter entirely.
