Sergio Garcia hits ace on No. 17 at Sawgrass
Sergio Garcia is surely a confident player on the heels of a Masters win, and No,1 7 at TPC Sawgrass hardly phased him.
The PLAYERS Championship is often referred to as the “fifth major,” with a word-class field of golfers and an iconic golf course like TPC at Sawgrass. A win this week is right alongside a major win in many ways on someone’s resume
Sergio Garcia won The PLAYERS Championship back in 2008, and he finally took himself off the list of “best players to never win a major” at The Masters this year. Thursday’s first round was mostly mediocre for Garcia in his first return to action since Augusta. Until he reached one of the most famous holes in golf, that is.
The par-3 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass is famous for its island green, and the view from the tee intimidates even the world’s best at motivating a golf club. Add in the real prospect of wind and just finding dry land becomes a moral victory.
Garcia stepped to the 17th tee Thursday afternoon at +3 for his round. He left the hole in a little better shape.

TPC Sawgrass played very tough on Thursday, with just 48 players under par at the time of this post. Garcia finished with a +1 (73), which is six shots off the lead held currently by William McGirt and Mackenzie Hughes (heading to No. 18 as I speak).
