The internet and social media are ablaze about something called a man romper, but what exactly is this fabled thing that everyone’s buzzing about?

There are always going to be exceptionally dumb fashion trends — or attempts at them. Wearing jeans that have more holes than actual denim was a thing. So too were Zubaz pants, acid-washed clothing, bell-bottoms and so on. However, the latest emerging craze (perhaps for its mere absurdity) has the internet and social media melting down. It’s the man romper.

If you’re wondering what the man romper is, it’s actually quite simple. It’s exactly like a women’s romper, that standard — only it’s marketed and made for me. For those who may be unaware what a romper is, imagine a pair of overalls. Have that image? Now cut off the “pants” portion of the overalls about midway up the thigh, if not higher. Then add some buttons up the front, or at least make sure they’re there. You’ve got a romper now, and also a man romper it would seem.

This honestly feels like something that somebody would’ve tried before now, but it’s not the case. So how did the craze with the man romper get started online?

Everything began with a Kickstarter as ACED Design opened a page for “The RompHim.” That has since become known colloquially as the man romper, as it should. They wanted $10,000 to be raised for this project. At time of posting, they’ve raised over $70,000 with 28 days still left to go in the campaign to raise money.

There are some fashion trends that should never be started or thought of. This has absolutely nothing to do with gender-specific clothing or whatever. Rompers in general just seem way too complicated when a tank top and shorts would work just fine. So what make them more widespread and target them to men? The man romper is thriving for now, but let’s hope it’s short-lived — for sanity’s sake.
