Mike Trout hits home run off back of Marlins Park
Mike Trout is off to a great start this season, and he left a memory for some fans at Marlins Park on Saturday.
Today, at still just 25 years old, Mike Trout could retire and have a strong case for the Hall of Fame. The career comparison for him through roughly five-plus seasons is littered with all-time greats, and entering Saturday Trout is off to another fantastic start in 2017 (.338/.460/.739 slash-line, 15 home runs, 35 RBI and nine stolen bases).
Those 15 home runs had Trout tied for the major league lead in round-trippers, with the highly hittable and increasingly well-traveled Vance Worley set to start for the Miami Marlins Saturday afternoon. Trout was the third batter of the game, and he wasted little time making a mark. So to speak.
As laid out very nicely in the graphic below, Trout’s home run went 443 feet, reached the end of its path in a relative hurry (five seconds) with a launch angle of 24 degrees, an exit velocity of 114 miles per hour and an 84-foot height at its apex. Those unsuspecting fans near the back of the ballpark in surely didn’t expect to see a hard-hit baseball cross their path, but let’s hope everyone got away unscathed.
Trout’s lone stake in the major league home run lead may now carry into Sunday. Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is sitting at 15 himself, and playing the San Diego Padres parallel to the Angels-Marlins game on Saturday. As of the bottom of the eighth inning of his game, Harper is 1-4 with an RBI.

The All-Star Game this year happens to be at Marlins Park, and Trout is on track to be there as a starting outfielder for the American League. Let’s hope someone talks him into participating in the Home Run Derby.
