In possibly the worst-case scenario for an already average secondary, the Ravens suffered a setback Thursday when Tavon Young suffered an injury.

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tavon Young is coming off a solid 2016 rookie year that saw him start in 11 games, but may be in rough shape for the start of the 2017 season.

The second-year cornerback suffered an apparent knee injury at a Ravens OTA on Thursday, and the damage isn’t known to this point. The injury came on a non-contact play, where Young went down to the ground after an interception and bumped into a teammate. Young was helped off the field by the trainers, and reportedly couldn’t put a lot of weight on his injured leg.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was quick to react to the situation when he talked to reporters, but couldn’t reveal the severity of the injury.

“There wasn’t much contact at all,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll see how his knee is.”

Young confirmed the injury on his Twitter account a few hours after practice on Thursday, but also didn’t reveal many details about the extent of the injury, or any timetable for a return.

UPDATE: Young tore his ACL and is likely to miss the entire 2017 season

Harbaugh said that while the injury will surely hurt the roster, it’s a part of the game, and the team’s job to fill the void that could be left if Young is out for significant time.

"“It’s like what Ozzie [Newsome, the Ravens general manager] says all the time: ‘You need to accrue as much depth to your roster as you can because injuries are going to happen,'” Harbaugh said. “But with that particular bridge, we’ll cross when we get there.”"

The Ravens will definitely need Young back sooner rather than later, but still have over a month until the start of training camp, along with a few months until the season begins, for the corner to return to full strength.
