Jeremy Maclin has now made two visits to teams, and he’s 0-for-2 on signing a deal anywhere.

When Jeremy Maclin was surprisingly cut by the Kansas City Chiefs last Friday, the Buffalo Bills moved quickly to the front of the line to sign him. But being recruited by LeSean McCoy, and a visit that extend into a second day, was not enough to keep him from moving on to visit the Baltimore Ravens.

NFL Network’s Mika Garafolo reported the Bills and Maclin were “hung up” on salary, which seemed to prompt leaving for Baltimore on Wednesday. Retired Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. posted a photo of he and Maclin at the team’s facility on Thursday, but Maclin reportedly still left town without signing.

What exactly needing some time to make a decision means is unclear, but Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh did add Maclin is attending a wedding this weekend. That surely means a conversation with his wife, and maybe some other family members, is coming. It could also mean an eventual circling back to Buffalo, or other free agent visits to come next week.

Maclin’s initial asking price seemed to be an issue for the Bills, but it’s not certain things got that far with the Ravens before he left. Harbaugh’s sentiment suggesting the two sides had a great visit may be 100 percent true, but it’s also expected and a bit of coach-speak.

For what it’s worth, with an appearance of a tacked-on comment from the team’s Twitter account, the Ravens are optimistic about signing Maclin.

The Bills and Ravens look like the two best fits for Maclin, due mostly to the likelihood of an opportunity to step right in and start. His 2016 campaign could be an injury-related blip, with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2014 and 2015, or the start of a decline that will continue at 29 years old.
