Jeremy Maclin unveils his new Ravens jersey number

Three days after signing with the Baltimore Ravens, Jeremy Maclin got his jersey number.

Jeremy Maclin became a surprise early June cut less than two weeks ago, when the Kansas City Chiefs let him go. A dismal, injury-affected 2016 season was surely a big factor in that decision, along with salary in the third year of a sizable contract. But Maclin posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with at least 85 catches in 2014 and 2015, so to say he’s done being a productive player is an overreaction.

After taking visits to the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens last week, Maclin agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal ($6 million guaranteed) with Baltimore on Monday. He took a big chunk of his snaps out of the slot with Kansas City last year, and was effective from the slot when last fully healthy in 2015, so that’s the role he’s in line for with the Ravens.

On Thursday, ahead of Baltimore’s last minicamp practice, Maclin helped unveil the number he will wear this season.

Maclin wore No. 18 over the first six seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles before switching to No.19 during his two seasons with the Chiefs. So it’s a bit of a blast from the past for him, if nothing else, just on a new team and in new colors.

The Ravens lost a significant chunk of receiving production from 2016 during the offseason, via retirement (Steve Smith Sr.) and free agency (wide receiver Kamar Aiken, fullback Kyle Juszczyk). That void only got worse with tight end Dennis Pitta suffering another, surely career-ending this time, hip injury during OTAs. So Maclin should get all the targets he can handle from Joe Flacco in the middle of the field, with few other options that can be considered proven or reliable.
