Eagles release Dorial Green-Beckham
The writing was on the wall for Dorial Green-Beckham, and the Eagles clearly didn’t see the point in him keeping him around any longer.
In an effort to bolster Carson Wentz’s supporting cast, the Philadelphia Eagles signed wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith in free agency. That was a clear message to underachievers like Nelson Agholor and Dorial Green-Beckham, and Green-Beckham in particular was on the roster bubble.
Green-Beckham was a 2015 second-round pick of the Tennessee Titans, and the Eagles acquired him prior to last season. In 15 games, he had 36 catches (on 74 targets) for 392 yards and two touchdowns. That’s probably about as good as it gets for Green-Beckham in Philadelphia, with a refurbished wide receiver depth chart, and he reportedly did not look good during OTAs.
The Titans somewhat surprisingly moved on from Green-Beckham just one season in, acquiring offensive lineman Dennis Kelly from Philadelphia. Now, the Eagles have apparently already seen enough too.

As Jimmy Kempski of The Philly Voice noted, Green-Beckham led the Eagles with 12 drops last season and dropped 25 percent of catchable passes that went his way. The next two on the list are Jordan Matthews (eight) and Nelson Agholor (six), who barely topped Green-Beckham with 14 drops combined. Their combined percentage of dropped catchable passes (24.2 percent), while fairly subjective along with how drops are determined, did not equal Green-Beckham’s. Even among a clearly lackluster group of wide receivers in 2016, Green-Beckham’s ineptitude stood out.

Having two teams cut willingly bait through the same number of NFL seasons is a serious red flag, and a lack of discipline has followed Green-Beckham from his college days. But he still has the size (6-foot-5, 237 pounds) and speed to be an intriguing player if he lands in the right situation, and can somehow put it all together. Green-Beckham shouldn’t have too much trouble landing in training camp with a new team, but he won’t be guaranteed anything.
