With Hugh Freeze officially out as the head coach for Ole Miss, it looks like Les Miles may have some interest in taking the job if it was offered.

Hugh Freeze’s departure from Ole Miss earlier in the week was huge news in the college football world, and it instantly led to fans predicting who could take over as the Rebels’ head coach. Now, it looks like Les Miles may have thrown his name into the hat for the position.

Rumors instantly started spreading about the possibility of Miles or even Chip Kelly returning to the collegiate ranks to take over as head coach. As some questioned why the coaches would take the job with the Rebels, given their endless controversies and scandals, one report said Miles is actually willing to join in on the madness.

According to Dan Wolken of the USA TODAY, Miles is “extremely interested”, and has been in touch with Ole Miss about his desire to join the program.

Miles was just fired from his spot as LSU’s head coach last September, and has been rumored for a lot of head coach openings throughout college football. With this opportunity, he’d be able to hop back into the game, but would be joining a team marred with some extreme controversy and possible NCAA sanctions to deal with.

As of now, assistant head coach Matt Luke is taking over as an interim head coach, and it looks like it may be him running the show for the whole year, given how close the team is to the start of the college football season.

However, Miles would provide an upgrade as far as experience as a head coach is concerned, while also forcing the team to readjust its system for a new head coach on the fly to match with Miles’ strategy.
