NFL free agency: Brandon Flowers visiting Cardinals
As the search for competent cornerbacks ramps up again, Brandon Flowers is starting to get interest from teams.
The first week of training camp is upon us, and as such any remaining NFL free agents are trying to find a home. Anyone that is still available carries a flaw of some sort, with age and injury history at the top of that list.
After finishing last season on injured reserve due to a concussion, Brandon Flowers was cut by the Los Angeles Chargers at the start of the league year in March. The 31-year-old cornerback had reported interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers right away, but his market has been quiet since. A series of concussions in recent years likely explains that, and Flowers may have been thinking about retirement.
Well it appears the start of camp has inspired interest in Flowers, perhaps due to some calculated work by his agent.
Outside of perennial Pro Bowler Patrick Peterson, the Cardinals have a lot of inexperience at cornerback. So their interest in having Flowers in for a visit, and surely a physical, is easy to see. The Patriots are apparently also in the mix, as if anyone should be surprised by that.
Prior to the last three seasons with the Chargers, Flowers spent the first six seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. He earned the lone Pro Bowl nod of his career in 2013, his final season in Kansas City, when he finally got recognized after years of being one of the league’s most underrated corners.

The key question with Flowers is his health, as he’s played all 16 games just once his career (2011) and has played just 17 games over the last two seasons. Relying on him as a starter at this point might be a bad idea, but Flowers can add viable competition as a low-risk addition.
