Titans’ Corey Davis makes insane grab (Video)
Corey Davis was the first wide receiver off the board in April’s draft, and with more catches like he had on Tuesday he’ll justify that status.
After a productive college career at Western Michigan, with 331 receptions for an FBS record 5,278 yards and 52 touchdowns (second in FBS history), Corey Davis was drafted fifth overall by the Tennessee Titans. That made him the first wide receiver drafted, two picks before the Los Angeles Chargers took Mike Williams.
An ankle injury dating back to the pre-draft process is in the rearview mirror, and Davis finally signed with the Titans last Saturday after missing a day of training camp. He worked with the first-team offense during the first full-squad practice on Sunday, which points to Davis having every opportunity to start and have a substantial role right out of the gate.
Davis has ideal size (6-foot-3, 209 pounds) and overall skills to become a top NFL wide receiver. On Tuesday, he showed off some of those things with a highlight reel-worthy touchdown catch.
While this pass from Marcus Mariota was from further out than that, the tools that will make Davis a good red zone target (size, hands, body control) were on full display. Cornerback LeShaun Sims did about as well as he could have, and still came up short of denying Davis a touchdown catch.
Great plays in training camp practice have to be kept in perspective, with an opposing defense wearing the same uniform. But pure talent can stand out in that setting too, and Davis has that if nothing else.

The Titans have made it a priority to surround Mariota with more talent over the last two offseasons. Davis was a prominent piece added at wide receiver this year, along with the late signing of Eric Decker. So Tennessee could have dangerous passing game, to go with a productive rushing attack, as they try to challenge for a division title.
