Who is Joey Janela: An All Elite Wrestling primer

Joey Janela is a bad boy from the indie scene. He will bring an innovative style to All Elite Wrestling.

Joey Janela is a bad, baaaad boy. He’s done hardcore matches, death matches, and everything in between. Popular on the indie scene, he is also the brains behind Joey Janela’s Spring Break, Joey Janela’s Escape from L.A., and Joey Janela’s Lost in New York. If we’re being honest, he single-handedly revived PCO’s career without the use of Destro’s car battery. He is one of wrestling’s most brilliant minds. He has had a hand in transforming the indie scene.

Since joining All Elite Wrestling, we’ve already seen Janela’s innovativeness. In the Casino Battle Royale at Double or Nothing, he took a nasty bump through a table from Luchasaurus. In one of the most memorable AEW moments thus far, Jimmy Havoc stapled a lit cigarette to Janela’s forehead.

At Fyter Fest, he was Jon Moxley’s first AEW opponent. Their unsanctioned hardcore match showed that AEW is open to showcasing all types of matches and proved that there’s something for everyone. You could not look away from what these two were doing in the ring. Janela took a spot with thumbtacks to bare feet. This will foreshadow some of the things that the Bad Boy is willing to do to entertain the masses.

At Fight for the Fallen, Janela teamed with fellow hardcore wrestlers Jimmy Havoc and Darby Allin. All three are creative and dynamic; some might even say reckless. The trio faced MJF, Sammy Guevara and Shawn Spears. Of course, those three couldn’t get along for one match. If you haven’t figured it out, Janela is not a favorite of Jim Cornette. After hitting a Death Valley Driver on Guevara on the apron, he looked into the camera, flipped it off while saying “f–k you, Jim Cornette!”

Janela was pinned right after that. His teammates were not impressed and got into a brawl backstage. This set up the Cracker Barrel Clash at All Out between the trio. This match was pure insanity. These three continued to one up each other in the craziness and creativity. Janela was sitting in a chair and got staples to the head from Havoc before being monkey flipped over with the Bad Boy remaining upright.

Janela seems to shine brighter in each match he has. His creativity and talent will make him an even bigger star. It’s only a matter of time before everyone knows his name.
