The current 2020 NBA season will (hopefully) go down as the weirdest NBA season of all-time but what other modern seasons come close?

Jason Mann and Rich Kraetsch look at the weirdest modern NBA seasons including lockout-shortened years, stunning retirements, rules changes and more.

Seasons highlighted include, of course, 2020, the current NBA bubble situation,141 days between regular-season games — literally the same number of days between the beginning of the season (October 22) and the last games before the season was suspended and the deaths of Kobe Bryant and David Stern.

Additional seasons include:

The 1993-94 season with Michael Jordan’s retirement, a new 3-point line, the Orlando Magic receiving back-to-back first overall picks, the Magic trading Chris Webber for Anfernee Hardaway, Atlanta trading Dominique Wilkins for Danny Manning, Houston winning 15 straight games, Denver defeating Seattle in the first round of the playoffs and more.

1995-96 with an offseason lockout, exploration of the new NBA 3-point line, Canadian expansion for the NBA, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf’s national anthem protest, Alonzo Mourning and Glen Rice trade, the WNBA officially being announced and the Chicago Bulls set an NBA record with 72 regular-season wins.

The infamous 1998-99 lockout, Michael Jordan retires again, Latrell Sprewell reinstated, Scottie Pippen traded to Houston, Denver signing Antonio McDyess a year after trading him, wild NBA playoffs and Tim Duncan’s ascension into superstardom.

Lastly, we touch on the most recent NBA lockout in 2011 including an abbreviated NBA season, LeBron James’ first championship, the Charlotte Bobcats worst winning percentage in NBA history, the final season for the Nets in New Jersey, Chris Paul trade shenanigans and more!
