Ohio State football quarterback Quinn Ewers is entering the transfer portal with Texas as a top choice. But could the Longhorns miss on Arch Manning if they get Ewers?

Quinn Ewers stunned the college football world on Friday night as the Ohio State football quarterback entered the transfer portal after the No. 1 recruit from the 2021 class spent one year with the Buckeyes and never saw the field. That, of course, was easy to explain as his late arrival in the program put him well behind on a crowded depth chart.

But now, the Southland, TX native is about to choose where his next college football destination will be.

Luckily, we already have somewhat of an idea of where Ewers will be looking as reports indicate that Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech are all being considered, which again makes sense for the Texas kid. The Longhorns, however, might be the most intriguing option.

With that said, though, the burnt orange faithful have to be wondering if landing Quinn Ewers would hurt their chances of landing another white whale, 2023’s top overall recruit, quarterback Arch Manning.

Texas football: Would Quinn Ewers transfer mean missing out on Arch Manning?

There is a belief around the college football recruiting world that Texas is currently the leader in the Arch Manning sweepstakes, which would be a tremendous get for the Longhorns as the signal-caller from the royal family of quarterbacks appears to be a generational talent.

That being said, Ewers could potentially change that. If he were to transfer to Texas from Ohio State, the vaunted recruit in his own right would have, at minimum, two years of eligibility left to be the starter for the Longhorns. That would mean he would be starting in 2023 when Manning would be joining the program if he chose Texas.

Considering his recruiting pedigree, it’s safe to say Arch Manning is expecting to play immediately. Subsequently, if Texas were to have Ewers, that might deter the 2023 top recruit from signing with the Longhorns and make him look elsewhere.

That would be highly unfortunate but, at the same time, you know what could also hurt Texas’ chances? Not being very good at football. And adding Ewers would ensure that they would increase the talent level at the most important position on the field, which obviously makes their chances of success much higher.

It’s a complicated question relating to Ewers and Manning but, at the end of the day, head coach Steve Sarkisian doesn’t have the full luxury to ask it. If he has a chance to land Quinn Ewers, he should do it. The transfer could be the spark he needs to get his era at the helm of the program jumpstarted in a major way.
