Tim Tebow Can’t Capitalize as Sanchez Struggles in 26-3 Loss

When the Jets traded for Tim Tebow, we all as sports fans had wild fantasies about a quarterback battle for the ages — well ages 6 to 11. The Tonka Toy of a battle brewing in New York got even lamer on Saturday night when Tim Tebow followed up Mark Sanchez’s miserable start with an even more miserable backup performance.

Sanchez went 9-for-11 and threw an interception with the reps that he got in the first half. Head coach Rex Ryan split the game in two, giving Sanchez all –and I use all very lightly — the first half reps and Tebow all of the second half snaps. Sanchez took 27 total snaps in the game and threw an interception that Jayron Hosley took to the house on his 24th.

Tebow didn’t fare much better in the box score but if you do take the time to break down his snaps, he didn’t do that bad. And you know SportsCenter will show all 32 snaps in slow motion, with extreme action axis control analysis and all that other fancy mumbo jumbo they use to pimp the Jets to the world.

In his 32 snaps, Tebow produced something Sanchez couldn’t: a score.

He didn’t get into the endzone but he did set up the Jets in field goal range so that Josh Brown could score the only points of the night for the losing New York team.

In fact while Sanchez produced three-and-outs on drive after drive, Tebow started the second half with a 14 play, 68 yard drive that ate up 8:26 off the clock. The bad news with that is, the Jets were losing 16 – 3 at that point, so the slow and steady approach Tebow was rolling with was sort of counterintuitive. But he did have a goo drive so Jets fans have that to blow out of proportion.

Any way you slice it, the Jets had another awful night at quarterback and from what we’ve seen out of both quarterbacks who are now neck and neck as the worst on the team, things need to improve fast if this Tebow gamble (and the Sanchez gamble for that matter) is going to pay off.
