The New York Jets may have won the battle in Miami but they lost one of their best soldiers in the process which may cripple their chances in the war. All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis was carted off the field in Sunday’s win with what appears to be a pretty serious knee injury. It was Revis’ first game back since missing last week’s matchup with the Steelers due to a head injury.

The worse part of the injury to Revis — and the reason Jets fans need to be devastatingly concerned– is the fact that Revis went down and writhed in pain after a non-contact play. Revis was defending a reverse screen pass when he fell to the ground and proceeded to immediately thrashed in pain after his knee buckled as he tried to get into position.

Usually when a player suffers a non-contact injury in the knee area, it’s usually a tear of some sort. Earnest Graham of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a season ending knee injury after a non-contact play last season and most notably, Chicago Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose an ACL tear on a non-cantact play as well.

Revis did walk off under his own power, but that’s looking like false hope for Jets fans praying his injury isn’t serious. Revis made it to the sidelines but he didn’t make it any further as he was then carted off the field and taken to the locker room. Revis was, however, sitting in the front seat with the driver of the cart rather than laying on the bed like most players.

Who knows if this is just Revis being Revis and is him just trying to deny the fact that he’s suffered a serious injury or whether he’s going to be fine and wants to show it. If Revis is lost, so likely go all hopes the Jets have of being contenders in a weak AFC East in 2012. Revis is the anchor to the Jets defense which was lacerated last week against the Steelers in his absence.
