Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is going back to school this offseason to hit the textbooks. Two years after leaving Auburn early to enter the 2011 NFL Draft, Newton will be returning to the university for the spring semester to work on his degree in sociology.

Auburn Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn passed along the news that Newton would be returning to school:

Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson confirmed to the Associated Press that the Panthers signal-caller has enrolled in classes, but Newton will not be available for interviews during his time back at Auburn. “[Newton] wants to focus on school and be a normal student,” per Sampson.

Hopefully for the Panthers, Newton will be hitting the playbook whenever he doesn’t have a textbook in hand.
