Super Bowl 2013: Joe Flacco Gives Ravens a 14-3 Second Quarter Lead over 49ers
By Josh Hill
The San Francisco 49ers had to come from behind int he NFC Championship game to secure their place in the Super Bowl, and it’s looking like they’ll have to draw on that ability in the biggest game of their lives. After mild offensive possessions by the Niners and a costly turnover deep in Ravens territory, San Francisco is already looking up at the Ravens and are in a 14-3 hole.
Joe Flacco helped the Ravens jump out to a 7-0 lead and after the 49ers got on the board, he lead his team down the field again and turned a a 49ers turnover into another Ravens touchdown.
LaMichael James was stripped inside of the Ravens 30 yard line, and Courtney Upshaw recovered it, setting up the impressive and nearly flawless drive for Baltimore. The fumble was reviewed but James clearly lost the ball before his knee was anywhere near the turf and the correct call was made on the field by the officials.
It’s hard to count the 49ers out of the game seeing as it’s only a 14-3 deficit and the Niners know how to come back in big games and win them. But we also saw what the Ravens do when they get a lead and get some serious confidence in themselves. Against the Patriots, the Ravens were up against a tall task but after getting a lead and getting comfortable, they ran away with the game.
That very well could happen tonight, but for the sake of our entertainment, let’s hope the 49ers mount one of their comebacks.
