Ricky Potts is the Mediator at The Golf Community, and polices the community like a bull dog. If someone is posting spam, or getting off subject, they can be assured of getting a visit from the local constable.

I had asked Ricky some questions regarding how and why he decided to start this community, and instead of trying to paraphrase, his answers were so well written, I am just going copy them over.

1. When I heard that Google was introducing Communities, I knew I had to create one. I LOVE Google+, and see a lot of value for me and my clients. I wanted to explore the value of other like-minded golfers. I am a part of a Facebook group that has over 1,500 members. I wanted to replicate that, but on a bigger scale. Only a couple of months in and we are already over 4,000 member. I sometimes just sit back and smile at how much great content is being shared on this community.

2. I contribute that success to the members of the community. People are interested, people are engaged, and the content is golf focused and entertaining. From talking about events on the PGA TOUR to Google+ Hangouts with members of the community, there is always something new. I love seeing a push notification come to my phone saying there is a new post… can’t wait to see what people are saying.

3. I want the community to be focused on golf and other golf related concepts. It is not a place to promote your brand or become a commercial for your product. It is a place to discuss golf. If a new club is a hot topic, discuss. If Rory pulling out of an event is a hot topic, discuss. If Tiger wins an event, discuss. I want this to be a place people can be free to discuss golf and other golf related topics. I never try to offend anyone, and I am doing the best I can with what has been provided to me. If anyone ever has an issue to something I remove from the community or something I say, please let me know. I am here to help and my goal is to connect other golfers across the globe.

4. The Friday Foursome concept is something I am excited about, and am glad to have guys like Bryan Cromlish and Jason Boslow involved. I want these to grow and to continue to feature other leaders in the community. Every great concept starts somewhere, and I feel there is a lot of value here. From introducing teaching professionals to talking to golf bloggers like Stephanie Wei, the Friday Foursomes are a way to highlight members of this community. I also love taking questions from the community and keeping the conversation light and fun. I want the views to grow, I want the audience to grow, and I want there to be a waiting list for members to be featured. I am already booking dates into May, so we are on the right track!
