The Detroit Lions are looking to add weapons around Matthew Stafford and they made a contract offer to a New York Giants wide receiver. No, they didn’t make an offer to Victor Cruz but they did reportedly make an offer to Domenik Hixon, who promptly told them to hold on a minute before putting the team on hold. Hixon didn’t totally reject the Lions contract offer, but he’s rejecting it for now as he’s holding out for a better deal.

Hixon likely won’t get the deal he wants but it’s interesting to note that the Lions made a run at Hixon and may still end up getting him when the dust settles. If a team doesn’t come along and give Hixon what he thinks he’s worth, he’ll likely revisit the Lions offer and agree to play next to Calvin Johnson in 2013.

And that’s not a bad gig.

He’d be a nice pickup for the Lions and he’d fit right in with their M.O. at the moment. Detroit wants as much talent on offense as possible and while Hixon may not be as popular as his counterpart Victor Cruz, he’s still an invaluable talent and would give the Lions two really talented deep threat receivers to play with every Sunday.
