There are some concerns in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization over whether or not quarterback Josh Freeman is the right guy to take this team to the next level, but one of the players in the huddle is a firm believer in his starting quarterback.

In a very T.O.-esque, “that’s my quarterback” endorsement, Buccaneers guard Davin Joseph expressed his support for his signal-caller and made it clear that he believes Freeman is the man the organization needs to lead them in the direction they want to go.

I’m biased, he’s my friend, teammate, he’s my quarterback,” Joseph said, via Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times.

“But the thing that’s going to make Josh ‘the guy’ is his team.  His team is going to make him the guy.  So it’s his defense doing what defense is supposed to do, special teams making plays, offensive line blocking, receivers catching, running backs running. It’s everything that’s going to make Josh the guy.

“You look at the two teams in the Super Bowl, were not the two best quarterbacks in the league.  It was the two best teams in the league.  So Josh’s success is going to come from his team, just like every other quarterback.  Even though you had the best quarterback in Peyton Manning, he didn’t even make it to the Super Bowl. Tom Brady didn’t make it to the Super Bowl.  It’s just about the best team.”

It says a lot about Freeman’s command of the huddle that one of his players is coming to his defense, but Freeman will still need to impress the guys upstairs if he hopes to keep a firm grasp on the starting job going in to next season.

The team executives and coaching staff aren’t sold on Freeman as their starter, but he will have 2013 to show them he has what it takes. Otherwise, the team could be looking to go in another direction.
