The Oakland Raiders were looking to trade back and they’ve found a partner to help them make that possible. Oakland was missing a second round pick thanks to the Carson Palmer trade they made with the Bengals in 2011, but they’ve gotten that back thanks to a trade with Miami.
Miami’s motivation to trade up increased significantly when we saw two offensive tackles taken with the first two picks. But while everyone thought that the Dolphins were going to select tackle Lane Johnson due to that run on tackles, but instead they shocked everyone and drafted Oregon’s Dion Jordan to be their defensive end of the future.
The pick is a bit of a head scratcher, mainly due to the fact that the Dolphins need a left tackle more than they need a defensive end. But Miami is going to try and own the pick and make the most of it. Obviously the Phins see something in Jordan that other teams didn’t, but it’s still a surprise that they traded up to draft him.
Dion Jordan was ranked as a top prospect tough, so it’s not a surprise to see him go where he did. All the shock is based around the fact that Miami gave up a first and second round pick to move to the top of the draft to take him.
