The Chicago Bears select Manti Te’o from Notre Dame.

Someone is bound to spend a first round pick on Te’o and each week it’s a different team. But as much fun as it is to hate on his fake girlfriend and his bad 40-time, Te’o isn’t that bad of a prospect. He was slow at the combine, but he’s got football speed and that’s something more valuable than a linebacker being able to quickly run 40-yards.

Remember too, that Te’o would be a rookie with the Bears, not some veteran acquisition. This needs to be pointed out because the people are talking about Te’o suggests he has no room to grow as a pro. The guy isn’t even a pro yet, and based on his years at Notre Dame, he’s very capable of growing and learning very quickly.

The Bears need to fill the middle of their linebacking corps and Te’o is a guy who fits right in with how Marc Trestman is going to run things and can redeem himself in a leadership role in the Windy City. Te’o is far from a sure thing, but if a team takes him off their board and uses the Lennay Kekua story as a reason, that’s an example of a poorly run team. He needs to grow, but Te’o has the potential to be a monster in the NFL and even if he’s never anything better than solid, the Bears can use that type of talent on defense.
