This selection was made by Anthony Fischer of Detroit Jock City.
With the fifth pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select Ziggy Ansah, defensive end, BYU.
The Detroit Jock City draft war room was divided as to where the Detroit Lions biggest need is. After taking the top two offensive linemen in the draft, the teams ahead of us made our decision easy. The Lions defense depends on having a dominate pass rush. With the exodus of Cliff Avril and Kyle Vanden Bosch the Lions are in desperate need of a rush end. With the 5th pick in the Fansided Mock draft the Detroit Lions select: Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah DE, BYU.
We like Ziggy’s raw talent and big upside. With his 6’ 5” 271lb frame and wingspan of over 35 inches, Ziggy has the reach to disrupt passing lanes and the size to power through to the quarterback. He can play both sides of the field which should help to free-up Ndamukong Suh.
Ansah also has heart. Having never laid eyes on a football before coming to BYU on an academic scholarship, Ansah developed into a top five pick through drive, determination and tremendous athletic ability. Ziggy’s play and work ethic quickly won the respect of players and coaches all over college football. Ezekiel Ansah’s mixture of character and ability should help him contribute immediately in the 2013 season.
Here is how the draft currently stands:
1. Kansas City Chiefs — Eric Fisher, offensive tackle, Central Michigan
2. Jacksonville Jaguars — Dion Jordan, defensive end, Oregon
3. Oakland Raiders — Sharrif Floyd, defensive tackle, Florida
4. Philadelphia Eagles — Luke Joeckel, offensive tackle, Texas A&M
5. Detroit Lions — Ezekiel Ansah, defensive end, BYU
