Denard Robinson was an interesting name to follow heading in to the NFL Draft this weekend. No one was really sure what he was as he played quarterback at Michigan but attended the Senior Bowl as a cornerback and was scouted as a wide receiver. Robinson ended up choosing wide receiver as his position of choice in the NFL and the Jacksonville Jaguars ended up choosing him as their fifth round draft pick.
Robinson had success at Michigan, but it wasn’t what people expected out of him. He was only a so-so passer, and his most valuable tool was his ability to run rather than his ability to throw, which is problematic when you’re a quarterback by trade. By it seems as though Robinson will settle into a different role with the Jaguars, and thanks to his passing past, may present some interesting play calls for Jacksonville in 2013.
Of course, while Robinson being drafted is notable, his selection is being best remembered at the moment for being photobombed by one of his friends as ESPN cameras captured his reaction to being selected by the Jaguars.
While his friend is getting all of the attention at the moment, Robinson and the Jaguars are hoping that whatever the former Wolverine ends up playing it ends well and with a happy surprise rather than the disappointment that has plagued Robinson for most of his career.
