Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Pitching Pickups, 4/29/13

For this new week make sure you check out some quality starting pitchers available on the Fantasy Baseball waiver wire including  Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Ted Lilly. Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Monday means a fresh start to your fantasy baseball categories if you’re in a head-to-head weekly format. It also means it’s time to check the waiver wire for two-start possibilities. These pitchers are scheduled to start on Monday and should make another start towards the end of the week. If you’re looking on the waiver wire, these pitchers are a great place to start.

As always, all pitchers listed as pickup options are available in over half of ESPN league, and you can see how my recent picks have panned out at the bottom of the post.

Possible Pickups

Ted Lilly-Los Angeles Dodgers: (1.9% owned in ESPN leagues) Lilly went five innings allowing a run on six hits while striking out seven in his first start of the year last week in New York. He’ll be on the mound at Chavez Ravine as the Doders return home to take on the Rockies. Lilly was 2-0 against Colorado last year and was very good at home: 3-0, 1.62 ERA in 5 starts. Even against the Rockies, Lilly makes a solid option for picking up and holding since his second start of the week would be against the Giants who are a good team, but have struggled to score runs. Lilly is definitely fantasy-ownable and makes a nice pickup to start the week.

April 17, 2012; Atlanta, GA, USA; Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Wade Davis (22) pitches in the fourth inning against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. Mandatory Credit: Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

Wade Davis-Kansas City Royals: (7.3%) Davis got knocked around his last time out at Detroit allowing seven runs (three earned) in just 3 2/3 innings. In his two starts before that, the righty had thrown 12 shutout innings. On the year he’s 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA as he gets ready to take the mound against Cleveland. His start later this week is against Chicago, and since both starts are at home, he’s worth a flier if he can return to his previous form and show that his last outing was just a bump in the road.

Zach Britton-Baltimore Orioles: (0.0%) If you’re looking for a deep-league option, Britton gets the call for Baltimore this week against Seattle on Monday and most likely the Angels in his second start. Britton struggled last year going 5-3 with a 5.07 ERA in his 11 MLB starts but has looked good at Triple-A Norfolk this season with a 1.98 ERA in his 13 2/3 innings. At least for Monday, he makes a solid one-start stop-gap if you need a streaming option. He’ll go up against Joe Saunders Monday who has been crushed his las two times out by Houston and Texas and comes in with a 1-3 record and a 6.33 ERA. Britton is high-risk but could get your week off to a nice start with some solid numbers and a W from Seattle.
