Maple Leafs vs. Bruins Final Score: Maple Leafs Survive to Force Game 7
By Josh Hill
The Toronto Maple Leafs were fighting for their playoff lives on Sunday night and they will live to play another day. After getting a huge Game 6 win at home over the Boston Bruins, things are headed back to Boston for a decisive Game 7 on Monday night to see if the Leafs really have what it takes to bounce the Bruins and move on to a matchup with either the New York Rangers or Washington Capitals.
Nobody could get anything done through two periods of play until Dion Phaneuf put the Leafs on the board with a huge goal on Tuukka Rask. It was looking like the Bruins could still come back in the game until Phil Kessel put an end to that with a game clinching goal at the 8:59 mark of the third period.
WIth the series heading back to Boston, the question now becomes do the Leafs have what it takes to knock off the Bruins on the road or will they get bruised to quickly at the TD Garden and fall into a trap they’ve already been in during this series? The netminding of James Reimer was heavily questioned at the beginning of the season, with the Leafs going as far as to be closely tied to Roberto Luongo rumors.
But Reimer put together a solid season for the Leafs and despite being questioned again when the Stanley Cup Playoffs began, he’s turned in back-to-back stellar performances for the first time all postseason long.
Reimer has allowed 1 goal in the last two games he’s played in and almost ended up on the right side of an overtime performance in Game 4. But for now, Reimer and the rest of the Leafs are focused on Game 7, as the team that wasn’t going to go anywhere without a netminder at the beginning of the season is now a game away from the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
