The Detroit Pistions are looking for a new head coach. They’ve already interviewed Nate McMillan, Mike Budenholzer, Lindsey Hunter (interim for the Phoenix Suns last season) and J.B. Bickerstaff.

According to Marc Stein of ESPN, you can now add New York Knicks assistant, Darrell Walker, to the list as he will soon sit down with Joe Dumars and interview for their coaching vacancy.

"The list of known candidates for the Pistons’ coaching vacancy, currently at four, appears poised to swell to five.Sources say that Knicks assistant coach Darrell Walker will soon get an interview for the position vacated by Lawrence Frank."

Walker, although not a big name in the market, has some ties with the Pistons. He was assistant to Michael Curry and to John Kuester during his tenure with the Pistons from 2008-2011.

Walker does have experience as a head coach, as he was the head coach of the Toronto Raptors during the 1997-98 season, however he was let go. Walker had an unsuccessful run with the Raptors, ending with 41 wins, 90 losses (winning percentage of .313) in two seasons with the Raptors. He was also head coach of the Washington Wizards from 1999-2000 and was able to obtain only 56 wins, 113 losses (winning percentage of .331). He’s not exactly an ideal candidate in the NBA market.

While the Knicks continue their race in the NBA playoffs, it’s not known when Walker will interview for the coaching position. It’s easy to judge his chances based on his head coaching record in the past, however if Walker impresses Dumars, he may receive another chance.
