Knicks vs. Pacers Final Score: Indiana Destroys New York to Take 3-1 Series Lead
By Josh Hill
When the new York Knicks drew the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the NBA Playoffs, nobody thought what is currently happening would transpire. Yet, as we sit four full games into a rehash of a Hicks vs. Knicks series, it’s the Hicks up 3-1 and the big city Knicks heading home to play a Game 5 that could see them get eliminated from the postseason.
Game 4 was just abysmal for the Knicks and a lot of it had to do with injury and illness. Point guard Iman Shumpert played barely 15 minutes in the games after missing practice with a nagging knee injury and the result was zero offensive production from him at all. The same goes for Kenyon Martin who also skipped practice on Monday due to an illness and he too scored absolutely nothing for New York on Tuesday.
Another storyline heading into this game was criticism directed at Carmelo Anthony from Tyson Chandler. As a response, Melo was once again the only Knicks player to do anything on the floor, scoring over 20 points and grabbing eight boards. Melo’s eight rebounds ended up being just one less than Chandler’s total which also goes to show you just how out of sync the Knicks were in Game 4.
This chemistry issue — or whatever it is– needs to be figured out fast as it’s sinking the Knicks season. After nearly sweeping the Boston Celtics, something happened in the middle of that series and since then New York has watched as the season has slowly burned. It’s looking like the fuse is getting as short as it can go because the season for the Knicks is about to explode all over them.
Don’t take this away from Indiana either, as they’re a powerful team that happens to be beating up the 2-seed in the Eastern Conference. With a trip to the Conference Finals all but secured, the Pacers are finally fulfilling the destiny many fans thought awaited them in seasons past. Beating the Knicks, even if they’re also beating themselves, is no small feat and it needs to be highlighted. This might be a team that can challenge the Heat in the Conference Finals, and that’s a discussion the Pacers are ecstatic to be a part of.
We knew someone would emerge from this series looking sharp, we just had no idea the losing team would be exiting the series so poor. Game 5 is Thursday in New York and if this game was any indication of what’s in store, there’s not a whole lot of need to watch as a Knicks fan unless you’re into torture porn.
