There were some early reports that the Arizona Cardinals could try to pull a fast one on former LSU Tigers defensive back Tyrann Mathieu by signing him to a deal that included no guaranteed money, but the two sides have finally agreed to a contract and that was not at all the case. Mathieu and the Cardinals agreed to a four-deal.
Mathieu gets a $265,000 signing bonus for signing the contract now and an additional $397,500 that will be paid in roster bonuses unless he is cut because of drug usage.
In Arizona, Mathieu will be playing free safety, while occasionally coming up to play in the slot. He will also contribute on special teams, where he was an impact player at the collegiate level.
The Cardinals are confident that Mathieu will be able to be a big time playmaker for the team, especially if he keeps his head on straight.
Mathieu is working hard to get his life on the right track and with the support of the Cardinals coaching staff and his mentor Patrick Peterson, there is plenty of reason to believe that he will be able to return to the field and make an impact.
