Los Angeles Clippers Contact Jeff Van Gundy About Head Coaching Job
By Josh Hill
The Los Angeles Clippers are in search of a new head coach, and they might be traveling to the land of television to find one. According to Yahoo! Sports guru Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clippers not only have shown an interest in Jeff Van Gundy but they’ve reached out to him to see if he’s interested in returning to the NBA as the head coach in Los Angeles.
This news from Woj jives with reports this morning that stated the Clippers were “strongly considering” both Van Gundy and Brian Shaw as head coaching candidates. But while earlier reports stated nothing more than an interest, Wojnarowski is confirming that the interest has gone beyond the batting of the eyelashes stage and into the ask for your number stage.
Van Gundy has been out of basketball since leaving the Houston Rockets back in 2007 and while many teams have called him up since then, he’s settled into a cozy job as ESPN’s best basketball analyst and one of the better color commentators on television.
He has a past loaded with success too, as he took the New York Knicks to the NBA Finals in 1999 and the team hadn’t made it out of the first round since then until this season. Overall he’s been to the postseason nine times and seems to have only gotten wiser thanks to always watching the game for ESPN. He’s plugged into the game’s style today and could very well become a top coach if he returned.
But that’s a big if and it’s one the Clippers are hoping to get past so they can start talking contract with who they hope will be their next head coach.
That is, if Chris Paul approves.
