Penguins vs. Bruins Final Score: Boston Pounds Pittsburgh to Take 1-0 Series Lead
By Josh Hill
The Pittsburgh Penguins looked like they may be the best team in hockey after their series against the Ottawa Senators, but the Boston Bruins were coming into the Steel City white hot as well. Maybe it was the fact that the Penguins were fresh off of facing a weaker opponent than the Bruins or perhaps they’ve finally met their match. Either way, the Bruins stormed into Consol Energy Center and took Game 1 against the Penguins with convincing vengeance.
David Krejci was the star of the game for the Bruins as his two goals ended up being the difference in the win as he posted scores in the first and third periods of the game. The Bruins hadn’t been an overly aggressive team on offense this year but they came out guns blazing against the Penguins in Game 1 and it’s a trend they’d like to keep up.
More importantly, Tuukka Rask was brilliant as usual and was able to hold back a high powered offense in Pittsburgh. Rask is quickly becoming a star in the NHL thanks to his performances this postseason and a solid Game 1 against the best offense in the Eastern Conference is taking the Bruins netminder to an even higher level of stardom.
The series is still looks like it might be a long one, but this isn’t the first time the Penguins have felt the heat after a playoff game this postseason. Earlier in the playoffs they were taken to task by the New York Islanders who kept them honest and nearly upset them in the first-round. That series gave some people some hope that we could see the Senators pull off the upset but they turned in a rather embarrassing series.
But the Bruins are tough, they can score when they need to and they have one of the best netminders in the game today who is hitting a red-hot streak in the playoffs.
Pittsburgh is a team that doesn’t roll over but the Bruins are a team that can take a punch and not let it throw them off course. These two teams were built to play one another and even after Boston won the first game, it’s hard to tell who will come out on top.
