The Boston Bruins came into their series against the Pittsburgh Penguins facing a tall task. The Penguins looked like they were finally getting hot and were going to be unstoppable. But reality has set in and the Boston Bruins have dragged them off their pedestal and down to their level. It takes a smart team to force an opponent like the Penguins to try and be the tougher team and the Bruins are dragging Pittsburgh behind the shed already because of it.

Pittsburgh has a lightning fast offense, but they’re losing their composure which has them sunk in an 0-2 hole against the Bruins. Boston rocked the Pens again so hard in Game 2 that Tomas Vokoun had to take the fall for the Pens lack of offense and was pulled in the second period.

Vokoun being chased by the Bruins marks the second time in two nights that a starting netminder has been chased out of a Conference Finals game as Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick was benched after surrendering four goals on Sunday night.

However, Mar Andre-Fleury was unable to come in and hold off the Bruins attack as he allowed the fourth goal of the night after replacing Vokoun.

The problem for the Penguins runs much deeper than Vokoun allowing goals. It’s no secret that being yanked on Monday night was Vokoun symbolically taking the fall for the lack of motivation and production the Pens were showing. Rather than being a goal scoring machine, Sidney Crosby has been dumbed down to trying to be the common thug on the ice, which is exactly what the Bruins were hoping for.

Add that to the fact that Pittsburgh just can’t get anything past netminder Tuukka Rask which only makes the frustration mount even more.

Pittsburgh was taken deep into a series against the New York Islanders but this is the first time they should feel truly afraid of elimination. Boston heads back to the TD Garden with a 2-0 lead and a chance to close things out in four games. But while they may not sweep the series, Boston could very well end this thing in five games which would be one of the more epic collapses by a top ranked team in recent memory.
