One of the best young talents in baseball is set the visit one of the best specialists in medicine.

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper will be travelling to Alabama on Monday to meet with esteemed surgeon Dr. James Andrews, and get a second opinion on his persistent knee issues that landed him on the 15-day disabled list at the end of May.

The 20-year old All-Star had been feeling the knee discomfort since slamming into the wall at Dodger Stadium on May 13.

He was originally expected to try to resume baseball activities earlier this week, but due to the swelling and pain, those activities had yet to resume. Nationals manager Davey Johnson said it’s all about getting Harper’s health back on track.

“We’ve just got to get the swelling out. We’ve got to get the inflammation out of there,” Johnson said. “We haven’t been real successful with our treatment here.”

Harper’s injury issue is just another problem on the laundry list of problems that currently plague a Nationals team that is struggling to stay in the race for the NL East crown and NL Wild Card race.  Star pitcher Stephen Strasburg was placed on the 15-day DL Wednesday with a muscle strain in his lower back.
