The Boston Celtics aren’t sure what the future holds, but head coach Doc Rivers may have his personal decision for them “soon”, according to a report in the Boston Globe.
"Rivers himself has not confirmed that and with the Celtics season being over for five weeks, speculation has grown that the beloved coach is seriously considering stepping down. … Rivers is expected to make his final decision within weeks. He only promised that he would speak publicly about his situation “soon.”"
Boston is wondering about more than a few of their stars as both Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce have not committed to playing next season for the Celtics just like Rivers has remained mum on his coaching of the team in 2013-14. But right now it seems all three big pieces for the Celtics are in a standoff and it might just take one of them finally making a commitment to next season for the others to follow suit.
The first one to come back has always been expected to be Rivers as the Celtics haven’t been looking at head coaches this offseason preparing themselves for Rivers’ departure. This suggests that either they have someone within the organization ready to go or they are fully confident Rivers will be back. General manager Danny Ainge was quoted as saying Rivers will be back next year, but we’re just waiting on confirmation from the man himself.
According to The Globe, that confirmation or denial will be coming “soon” and the Celtics will finally be able to start with wheels turning on the direction their headed this offseason.
