Kevin Garnett’s career and his future with the Boston Celtics is still up in the air. While Celtics’ GM Danny Ainge has several big decisions to make in the near future, the 37-year-old Garnett has opted to not have surgery on the leg that bothered him late in the season, according to Boston Herald.
"Garnett, in turn, still might be debating a return, though according to a league source, he has not had surgery on his troublesome left leg. Garnett spent all of his off-court playoff time in a therapeutic boot, and dropped hints about how much the inflammation in his left ankle area cut down on mobility. But rest appears to have been the solution to his issues."
Considering the fact that KG is not getting any younger, avoiding surgery this late in his career could prove to be crucial in whether he returns for another year, be it with another team or Boston, or chooses to retire. Going through another gruesome rehabiliation process would have been very bothersome at Garnett’s age.
This regular season Garnett averaged 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. In the six postseason games the Celtics played this season, Garnett was exceptional rebounding the ball, and averaged 12.7 points and 13.7 rebounds in the playoffs.
