The Miami Heat managed to even their NBA Finals series against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night, but while the players currently on the roster are preparing for Game 3 this week, a guy not on the roster is already lobbying to be there when the 2013-14 season begins. The NBA Teammate of the Year and current free agent Chauncey Billups said on Sunday that he wants to join the Miami Heat next year.

“Of course, I would have interest in Miami, of course,’’ Billups told FOX Sports Florida. “Absolutely, I could help them.’

And to Billups wanting to join the Heat as a veteran next year, I say join the line. I’d take a job coming off the bench for the Heat if they offered it and every person interested in winning easy would do the same.

The Heat seems to be content with the production they’ve seen out of both their current point guards which means if Billups came to South Beach he’d be playing a very reserve role with the team. Still, the Heat love their veterans and continuing to find the balance between youth and wisdom and leveling it with talent has put them in the NBA Finals for three straight years now.

Where the situation could get serious is the fact Billups and the Heat have flirted before, as Miami went after Billups when he was amnestied by the New York Knicks shortly after the 2011 Lockout was ended. The Los Angeles Clippers ended up outbidding the Heat in the minor sweepstakes, but now that he’s a free agent and willing to come to Miami at likely a reduced salary in order to win a title, Billups and the Heat may finally come together as one.
