NBA Rumors: Doc Rivers To Resume Broadcasting Career?
NBA Rumors — The Los Angeles Clippers and the Boston Celtics have been discussing a trade that would involve Doc Rivers moving to LA to take over the head coaching duties. However, the deal seems to be falling apart, and if it does, Rivers might take a break from coaching and resume his broadcasting career, according to CSNNE.com:
"A league source tells CSNNE.com that Rivers has not entirely ruled out taking some time off to resume his broadcasting career and return afterwards to coach.“You guys (media) have been around Doc long enough to know that’s always been something he’s talked about,” the source said. “So it shouldn’t come as a surprise. And frankly, now is probably as good a time as any for him to go that route.”"
Rivers is still under contract, and if he decided not to return to the Celtics, he would not be able to coach another team until his contract with Boston expires.
Many believe that the way Rivers has handled the recent situation he couldn’t possibly return to the Celtics. He has essentially given up on Boston and wants to coach the Clippers instead, so to just turn around and be back on the TD Garden sidelines would be a little disrespectful. Then there is always the fact that paying a coach $7 million a year to coach a team that is in rebuilding mode is a bit of a waste. Nothing is ruled out at this point, and it will be interesting to see what Doc decides to do.
