Boston Celtics, Doc Rivers Delay Press Conference Until Monday
By Josh Hill
The Boston Celtics thought they might be getting some closure when it comes to the situation with head coach Doc Rivers and his future with the team. A press conference was scheduled for Friday where Rivers was expected to publicly speak about his future for the first time since the Celtics were eliminated in the first round of the NBA Playoffs by the New York Knicks, but that’s not going to happen.
This delay in the press conference comes on the heels of reports that the Celtics have restarted trade talks with the Los Angeles Clippers that would send Rivers out west to be the Clippers new head coach.
It wasn’t specifically stated that this was the reason the press conference was delayed, but logic does point in that direction. Reports swirled on Thursday that the Clippers and Celtics had a deal in place but were adjusting it to assure league approval. This was never completely confirmed by either side but the fact that this press conference has now been delayed is very suggestive.
Rivers hasn’t talked about his coaching future and it’s been a long offseason so far for Celtics fans. But we may finally be getting some resolution regarding this situation, but nothing so far suggests you should hold your breath for a definitive answer to the question where will Doc Rivers coach in 2014?
