When the first began Uruguay looked like they were going to give Brazil a hard time. They got several offensive chances including a penalty kick the 15th minute. David Luiz threw a Uruguayan player to the ground and the referee pointed to the spot.
Diego Forlán lined up to take the penalty and shot it at the bottom right corner of the goal. Brazilian keeper Júlio César seemingly knew what he was going to do and headed to that post early and saved the shot.
With about 5 minutes left in the first half Luis Gustavo sent a deep pass to Neymar, who was able to real in the shot near the goal line and shoot it on goal. The rebound went out to a charging Fred who leaped to kick it. It looked like he didn’t connect quite the way he wanted to given the power he kicked with and the awkward angle it took. It went of the outside of his foot and went in the right side of the goal to give Brazil the lead.
When the second half started the Uruguayans had the same intensity they started the game with. In the first 3 minutes after some chaos in front of the net Cavani gets in on the right side just inside the 18 yard box and puts it to the far post in the lower corner to even the game at 1 apiece.
It wasn’t till later int he second half when Brazil would finally get ahead for good. Neymar sent the corner to the back post where Paulinho was charging and he connected with the header and sent the ball to the back of the net.
