NFL Free Agency: Carolina Panthers Talking With S Quintin Mikell
By Chris Roling
The Carolina Panthers have a serious need at the safety position, so it only makes sense the team is looking through the NFL free agency market to add a veteran presence to the secondary.
Geoff Mosher of Comcast SportsNet had the story first via Twitter:
Mikell is a veteran at 32 years of age who recently spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams. He is known for playing in the box and providing a disruptive force against the run.
The Carolina safety position is in some trouble. Charles Godfrey and Haruki Nakamura are a mediocre starting duo to be nice about it, so Mikell actually has a shot at landing the starting gig right away if he can stay healthy. Health has never been an issue for him in the past despite his physical play.
For Carolina, bringing in Mikell at this stage of the game would be a huge signing. The asking price is not that high and his ability to make the defense better in all areas is what the team seriously needs.
Watch for this one to get wrapped up soon.
