Former Broncos Player Calls Them Cowards Over DUI Situation
By Mike Dyce
Denver Broncos Director of Player Personnel Matt Russell was arrested on July 6th for drunk driving. The Broncos acknowledged the arrest and publicly stated that they were disappointed.
It was later learned that another Denver Broncos executive, Director of Pro Personnel Tom Heckert, was also arrested for a DUI. Not immediately after Russell or around the same time, but nearly a month earlier on June 11th.
But because that arrest flew under the media’s radar and never made the news no one, including the Denver Broncos acknowledged it. In essence, the Broncos kept it swept under the rug.
Former Broncos center Tom Nalen has called out the organization for what he calls cowardly behavior.
He does present an interesting point, maybe had the first arrest been publicized and Heckert was punished it would’ve made Russell more cautious with his drinking and transportation arrangements having a fresh example in his mind. But in the long run it might have only delayed the decision to drink and drive.
Never the less, Nalen had some fun with the response to his tweets.
