The Orlando Magic are looking to free up some cap space to take part in this year’s edition of NBA free agency. To do so the team may end up buying out the contracts of both Hedo Turkoglu and Al Harrington.

This should not come as a surprise. Orlando still needs to fill some depth positions, especially by bringing on some more guards. Both Turk and Harrington have large cap numbers and do not make sense as members of the team moving forward.

Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel has the report:

"That figure is deceptive, because the salaries of Hedo Turkoglu and Al Harrington are only partially guaranteed. If the team parts ways with them, as expected, the team’s salary figure will drop to about $49.0 million."

Again, the Magic are in a rebuild mode and started off hot with their performace in the draft. Letting go of older players with big cap numbers is the smart move here. ‘

Do not expect the Magic to be big players on the open market, but do expect them to at least attempt to find some quality depth as the team continues to recover from the aftermath of the Dwight Howard fiasco.
