A team that has quietly been involved in MLB trade rumors to this point is the St. Louis Cardinals thanks to the variety of injuries hurting the starting pitching.

Don’t look now, but the Cardinals may be the perfect team to trade for Chicago Cubs’ starter and obvious trade candidate Matt Garza. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal said as much in his latest video update as we approach the deadline.

Now, Rosenthal does go on to say the team would be unlikely to want to part with any elite talent to get Garza, but he does not rule it out either.

Rosenthal says if the team does not trust options they already have such as Chris Carpenter, then making a move for Garza could be a more viable option than most thing.

Obviously the Cardinals do not have a lot of time to make this decision. Chicago is doing everything it can to drive up the asking price for Garza, even touting that it is interested in giving him a new contract and keeping him around.

If the Cardinals want Garza, dragging their feet right now is the worst possible thing they could do. But for now, it looks like that’s what we’re getting.

Stay tuned.
