The Texans Rangers have long been considered the front runners to land Chicago Cubs’ ace Matt Garza according to a seemingly endless amount of MLB trade rumors, but there may be a surprise team that could swoop in at the last second.

That surprise team is none other than the Toronto Blue Jays, as  Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com says the Rangers and Blue Jays are the two teams in the lead for Garza:

"The Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays remain the front-runners for a trade with Chicago, according to industry sources. The Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians and San Francisco Giants have also expressed strong interest in the pitcher."

This is a surprise development in the Garza sweepstakes. Outside of Chicago faking interest in keeping Garza around to drive up the asking price, most did not consider the Blue Jays a serious threat.

Apparently the Blue Jays need to be taken seriously. We don’t have details as to how much Toronto is willing to give up for Garza, but it has to be a considerable amount for sources to tell Levine the team is neck-and-neck with Texas at this point.

Keep an eye on this one. It just got even crazier.
