The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the hottest names in baseball right now thanks to  their activity on the MLB trade rumors market, primarily because the team has been listed as one of the front-runners for Matt Garza.

Toronto is a big name on the market in the first place because the team had such a mediocre first half. However, big names such as Jose Bautista say the team can turn things around without management making acquisitions via trade (per  Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi):

"“Alex is not out on the field playing for us, we’re totally capable of playing a lot better baseball than we’ve shown, we just need to play better as a team,” Bautista said. “I’m No. 1 on that list, I’ve been very inconsistent this year, and I need to pick it up some and bring that consistency I know I can bring to the table, and bring more steady production and help the team win more games.”"

Other players backed Bautista’s statement. While the sentient from the players is nice, especially the part about them knowing they have to play better, there is no guarantee they will do so.

Right now management feels it has to make improvements for the roster to be more competitive in the second half and into the future. Opinions of the players who are underachieving at this point are not likely to be weighed heavily in any potential decision.

If the management for the Blue Jays wants to make move, it’ll get done.
