The Boston Red Sox on are on the MLB trade market in search of a third baseman thanks to Will Middlebrooks’ mediocrity. The team is reportedly looking to the Philadelphia Phillies and Michael Young, or the Milwaukee Brewers and Aramis Ramirez for help before the deadline.

The report comes from Danny Knobler of CBS Sports:

"Aramis Ramirez of the Brewers would be another possibility at third base, but he’s on the disabled list with a left knee problem. Brewers sources say that while there’s some chance Ramirez will return in the middle of next week, it’s also possible that he won’t be back until right around July 31."

Two problems here. For one, the Phillies do not want to act as sellers right now with the recent hot streak the team hit. They seem intent to ride things out.

Secondly, Ramirez may not be back before the deadline. If he is, it’s going to take some serious talks right near the end to make much of anything happen. In other words, don’t expect much unless he comes back earlier than expected.

The Red Sox certainly need help at the position, but the team may be looking in the wrong places at this point.
