There have been numerous teams interested in Michael Young of the Philadelphia Phillies, but one report states the Baltimore Orioles have emerged as the main suitor—and a surprise one at that.

With the Texas Rangers out of the running, the only real competition for the Orioles at this point comes from the Boston Red Sox. Simply put, the Orioles may need him as a DH more than any way Boston could put him to use.

The report comes from Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com:

Young certainly has what it takes on the offensive side of things to turn around the Baltimore lineup. With the way the team has been playing as of late, it’s no wonder the Orioles want to act as buyers.

The better question at this point is who Baltimore will give up. The Phillies have been hesitant to act as sellers, so the price for Young has to be pretty big as the deadline nears.

We’ll have the details if and when something actually happens.
