John Wall, Washington Wizards nearing max deal

Washington Wizards and guard John Wall are nearing a max deal according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. The hope to have it finalized by the end of the week and were previously aiming for an August 1st press conference to announce the deal.
“It’s a dream come true if it happens that way and if that’s how it goes down,” Wall said, via the Washington Post, “but I really don’t know what to expect.”
The max deal would pay Wall $80 million over five years. That is a lot of money for someone who had an injury plagued season last year. The Wizards think that was a fluke and are banking on Wall being healthy going forward.
Despite missing 33 games he still showed that he was a dynamic game changer after the All-Star Break. He averaged 20.7 points, 4.5 boards, 7.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game. That end of season push has motivated John Wall for 2013-14.
“Everybody was writing me off,” Wall said. “Nobody believed in me no more, until what I did at the end of the season and then they started believing again. Just more motivation. Fuel to my flames to try to get better.”
