The Miami Marlins arguably had their best win of the season as their starting pitcher went through eight innings of scoreless baseball and the offense trounced the Cleveland Indians to easily win the first meeting of this interleague matchup.

Jose Fernandez of the Marlins had his eighth win of the season after giving up three hits in eight innings and struck out an amazing 14 of the Indians’ batters. As his pitch total reached 108 after getting the 24th out, the Marlins turned to reliever Steven Ames to close out the game. He notched two more strikeouts to easily seal the deal.

Nick Swisher had the first hit in the first inning, and the team wasn’t able to get another hit until Asdrubal Cabrera hit a double in the seventh inning. Ryan Raburn came into the game late and had the third and final hit for the team.

On the other side, Marlins’ first baseman Logan Morrison had four hits and four runs batted in, one of the keys in fueling an offense that scored five runs in the first three innings and doubling their score all in the eighth inning.

The loss snaps an eight-game winning streak for the Indians, which the AL Central was thriving on consecutive wins with the Kansas City Royals coming in with nine straight victories and the Detroit Tigers coming in with five straight.
